  • Sunday School for children and youth began on September 13.
  • A new curriculum, Spark, keeps the rotation model, but strengthens Bible use
  • Children in grades 3, 4 & 5 will use their personal Bibles every week – help your children bring them from home!
  • Children in grades 3, 4 & 5 will all receive a gift of a New Revised Standard Version Bible, in the Spark format. Children in younger grades will have a bible story read to them by their teachers and shepherds.
  • Bibles will be on sale for family members and as gifts during September
  • Everyone, including children and parents, are invited to coffee, lemonade and treats in Fellowship Hall following the 8:30 a.m. service until the Sunday School Opening. Parents are encouraged to sit with their children. No donuts or drinks can be brought into the Sunday School Opening.
  • Sunday School Opening moves to the Sanctuary at 9:35 for music, Bible stories, theme introductions, devotions, offering, attendance and announcements.
  • Sunday School offering supports a student in Iringa, Tanzania.
  • Registration is accepted at any time. Registration forms are in this issue of the Spotlighter, on our website, and in Fellowship Hall.
  • Cost for Sunday School is $15 per child and $25 per family.
  • Kindergarten 2011 meets in the southeast classroom in the Sunday School wing; children go directly to that room.
  • Kindergarten 2010 meets in Palmtree Playhouse, in the northeast classroom in the Sunday School wing; children go directly to that wing.
  • Families are asked to respect age and grades guidelines for their children; the curriculum is designed to be age appropriate.
  • Jump Start for grades 6, 7 & 8 meets in the south side of the New Youth Room
  • Revive for grades 9, 10, 11 & 12 meets in the north side (with the couches) of the New Youth Room.
  • Parent Discussion will meet on the east side of the chapel and begin in October.
  • Bible Study will meet on the west side of the chapel beginning in October.

Room Rearrangement

This summer the Heritage Room has been transformed into a new Youth Room in order to accommodate all the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth graders. The old Youth Room has been transformed into the Kindergarten 2011 (K-11) class, so that these small members can learn in an age specific area and be nearer to children their age.

The chapel area will still be available for Sunday morning worship, but two adult classes will meet there during Education hour.

Art work and heritage items are being carefully stored and will be rotated out to public spaces and appreciation on a regular basis, under the careful watch of our archives committee, altar guild, staff and custodian.

The new Youth Room will still be available for the Norwegian Supper and a few funeral luncheons. Meetings and Bible studies will move to the Sunday School wing and Fellowship Hall.

Thank you to everyone for accommodating and welcoming youth into better space for ministry!
